PONENT MAR CYCLING

Aparthotel Ponent Mar was inaugurated in 1989 and since 1991 has accommodated numerous cyclists, both amateurs and professional teams (Carrera, Banesto... among others) and stars such as Miguel Indurain, Claudio Chiappucci, Marco Pantani, Alejandro Valverde and Chava Jimenez.

We are proud of these 30 years of experience in the world of cycle tourism, so much so that In 2019 'Ponent Mar Cycling' was born, a way to merge cycling with the hotel.

Mallorca is a small island, but a very popular destination for cycling fans (with more than 300,000 cyclists a year) since it has the most impressive landscapes that offer with its long, winding and smooth paved roads, very safe for the practice of this sport.

At Ponent Mar we have garages so you can store your private bicycle safely. A repair shop with a mechanic in our complex and tools available in case that you may need them.

We have 30 road bikes for rent. To improve your cycling experience, we offer 6 guided rides a week adapted to all levels.

ANDREAS

ORIGINALLY FROM: Bern, Switzerland.

LANGUAGES:German, English, French and Spanish.

Working at the Ponent Mar for many years, he has become part of the family and you're guaranteed fun and laughter around him.

CYCLING, HOW IT BEGAN: In 1986 he saw a ‘Pinarello’ bike and really wanted to buy it, so, he did! After that, he started with mountain biking and he came into racing.

Competed in ‘Engadin Marathon’, ‘Eiger Bike Challenge’, ‘Berner Rundfahrt’, ‘Blake Forest Ultra Bike’ and the ‘MA 312 Mallorca’.

He’s also been a Cycling guide for other well-known companies and has been at the Ponent Mar for many years.

FAVOURITE ROUTE: The ‘Cura’ monastery climb, to the top of ‘Puig de Randa’, in Llucmajor and the ‘Orient’ route.

KENNET

ORIGINALLY FROM: Copenhagen, Denmark.

LANGUAGES: Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, English, German and some Spanish.

A new addition to the team, a guy with pure energy and excitement, who brings vitality and a lot of fun. A Viking who loves biking!

CYCLING, HOW IT BEGAN: Like most Danish, he started to cycle as a kid. The first photo took of him at kindergarten was with a scar on his forehead after he fell off his bike.

He’s been riding bikes since the age of 5 and racing bikes since he was 10. He has plenty of scars to show off, which is the reason why he stopped racing years ago. Now, he considers himself a rider, not a racer.

FAVOURITE ROUTE: The monastery routes. Inland, small cami’s and rolling hills with a good climb every now and then.

FRANKY

ORIGINALLY FROM: Québec, Canada.

LANGUAGES: English, French, Spanish, Catalan and basic German.

Founder and President of MALLORCARADCYCLING Cycling Club which is sponsored by PONENT MAR CYCLING.

8 times road Balearic Champion, 12 times Time Trail, 14 times Track Cycling and is currently the National Champion Ultradistance Duo Team (overall classification) (Moto GP Circuit in Cheste). An absolute champion!

FAVOURITE ROUTE: The beautiful narrow paths from Campanet to Pollença, the climb to Sant Salvador in Felanitx and of course, all the climbs of Serra de Tramuntana.

GROUP GUIDED RIDES

THE BEST CYCLING EXPERIENCE

We want you to live the best cycling experience and enjoy our wonderful island whatever your level or experience.
We have routes from Thursday to Tuesday (Wednesday is rest day) for all levels with departures in the morning.

We offer different routes with distances that vary between 60 and 125 kilometers, depending on the group you choose, and different levels that adapt perfectly to the physical fitness level of each cyclist. Our expert guides will accompany you for the whole day.

We have two cycling seasons per year: The spring season, from March to mid-May and the Autumn season from mid-September to mid-October.

The price is 20,00€ per person per day.

MONDAY – SANT ELM

64km with 990m elevation gain

This ride will take you to one of the towns of Andratx called ‘Sant Elm’ which is well known as the old Fisherman’s town.

A unique, charming place to visit where you will stop to have a coffee and contemplate the views toward our little neighbor island called ‘Sa Dragonera (Dragon Island)’.

TUESDAY - EXCURSION

SPECIAL ROUTES

SA CALOBRA

A small, port village and a popular destination for road cyclists.
It is accessed by a single winding road, designed by Italian-Spanish engineer Antonio Parietti and opened in 1933, which features many hairpin bends and a 270° spiral bridge called the tie knot.
The climb is officially called the Coll del Reis, its length is 10km and it is often considered to be "as close as one could get to a perfect road for motorsport’.

CAP FORMENTOR

THURSDAY – LA COSTA

86km with 1535m elevation gain.

A stage that will remain in your memory.

One of the most emblematic routes in Mallorca, where you will contemplate the most incredible views of the coast of our island.

You will visit interesting coastal towns such as Banyalbufar or Estellencs

FRIDAY – SANTA MARIA

92km with 935m elevation gain

Or as we like to call it... The Cake Route.

This tour will burn enough calories so you can enjoy the most delicious homemade cakes in one of the most famos places in Mallorca.

You will also access landscapes with vineyards, which are so characteristic on this island.

SATURDAY - ESPORLES

69km with 1190m elevation gain

On this route you combine the beauty of the landscapes with the effort in ascents to Galilea, from where you will appreciate incredible views of the sea, or Es Grau which will take you from Puigpunyent to Esporles, a beautiful town on the slopes of the Serra de Tramuntana.

SUNDAY – COLL DE SÓLLER

92km with 1200m elevation gain

Coll de Sóller is a mountain road located in the municipality of Bunyola.

It has a height of 497 meters and a length of 8.9 kilometers.

In the past it was a necessary route to go to Sóller or Fornalutx from most points of the island, but now it has become a mythical road for many cyclists since the construction of the Sóller tunnel.
